Senior Manager Logistics & Export Compliance

The Senior Manager of Logistics and Export Compliance holds overall material management responsibility for MTU Maintenance Canada. This role involves coordinating and overseeing the Logistics Department, ensuring optimal interaction between all logistical functions and other departments. Key duties include monitoring the quality, quantity, cost, and efficiency of goods movement and storage. Additionally, the Senior Manager manages employees within the Logistics & Stores department, providing expertise to support departmental and company goals, and recommending and implementing process improvements.

This role is responsible for export regulations and compliance processes related to military contracts (controlled goods, export licenses for material and data during operation and bidding phases), as well as adhering to Canadian, U.S., and EU export and compliance laws (e.g., sanctions, tariff classification, customs, ITAR, CCL, EAR controlled goods).

To be a successful candidate, an applicant should be:

General duties:

  • Manage and coordinate activities of the Logistics Centre to achieve departmental goals.
  • Align MTU-C Logistics activities with business strategies to improve overall performance.
  • Standardize logistical and procedural standards across all parts.
  • Maintain the department's budget.
  • Set, monitor, and report KPIs to the CEO; align KPIs with corporate and division goals.
  • Ensure audit compliance with aviation and MTU standards.
  • Collaborate with other managers to streamline logistics efforts internally and externally.
  • Coordinate training for department employees to ensure proficiency and adherence to Canadian Ministry of Transport Airworthiness Standards.

Operational duties:

  • Supervise and direct employees, especially unionized staff, to meet goals and customer expectations.
  • Ensure personnel have necessary resources.
  • Support the Materials Procurement Cycle to meet schedules through effective leadership.
  • Coordinate receiving, shipping, and marshalling activities to support production and customer requirements.
  • Optimize resource utilization across process teams.
  • Respond to turn-time risks with full transparency of all customer engines and modules.

Strategic duties:

  • Lead process improvement initiatives.
  • Foster team building through clear roles and responsibilities.
  • Manage work stoppages to minimize production impact.
  • Establish operational and strategic relationships with MTU global units for optimal results.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Logistics, Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 6 years of logistics management experience, preferably in operations.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work under stress.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Results-oriented, strategic thinker, adaptable to change.
  • Experience in aviation and managing unionized employees is highly preferred.
