Reporting to the Director, Data Governance, the Senior Manager, Data Governance is a key member of Symcor’s growing Data & Trust Office. You will play a critical part in operationalizing our data governance strategy, ensuring high standards for data quality, integrity, and security, while promoting data as a trusted, valuable asset across the organization. As a key leader in the team, you will manage governance operations, oversee tool and control implementations, and champion a data-driven culture. You’ll work closely with business leaders, technology teams, and compliance partners to build scalable governance capabilities while developing and mentoring a growing team.
This is a hybrid role with requirements to be on site 3 days a week, providing a balance between remote flexibility and in-person collaboration.
About The Role:
- Lead the implementation of data governance policies, standards, and frameworks across business and technology functions
- Engage with executive stakeholders, data owners and stewards to embed governance practices into operational processes
- Oversee the rollout and management of data governance platforms (data catalog, metadata management, lineage, data quality tools, etc.)
- Partner with IT, Privacy, Legal, Security and Compliance to define and implement governance controls for data access, classification, and retention
- Assist in developing and executing the overall data quality strategy, aligning with business objectives and data governance frameworks
- Develop and establish data quality standards, guidelines, monitoring and reporting to track key metrics and trends
- Facilitates training and education of stakeholders on their roles and responsibilities, data management procedures and effective tool utilization
- Ensure critical data elements (CDEs) are defined, monitored, and governed appropriately
- Manage day-to-day operations of the data governance program, including council meetings, issue management, reporting, and communications
- Track governance metrics and program milestones, continuously improving processes for efficiency, scalability, and business value delivery
- Build and manage a team of data governance professionals, providing coaching, feedback, and career development
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing culture focused on accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Lead cross-functional governance working groups to identify opportunities and formulate initiatives for improving data governance processes and engagement
- Oversee and execute established compliance monitoring and auditing activities including scheduled attestations and regulatory reviews
What You Need to Succeed:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Data Management, or a related field, or equivalent education and work experience
- Certifications related to data governance or related fields such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) considered an asset
Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Quality Management, or a related data management function
- Proven experience managing and developing teams in a collaborative culture
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, leadership, and change management skills
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and data management best practices, tools (ie Purview, Collibra, Informatica) and metadata management
- Strong track record of leading cross-functional data initiatives and resolving complex data issues
Skill requirements
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels, and drive collaboration
- Knowledge of data governance tools and technologies (ie Purview, Collibra, Atacama, Informatica), metadata management platforms, and advanced data analysis tools
- Knowledge of industry standards and data management frameworks (ie DCAM, DAMA)
- Ability to analyze complex data issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions
- Proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex issues and implement long-term improvements
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations, and the ability to ensure compliance with governance practices
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building, influencing, and partnering with both business and technical teams
- Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to flexibly multi-task
- Ability to produce measurable business results while working under time constraints
