Job summary

Cogir Senior Living is seeking a Cook to prepare and deliver meals for residents, guests and employees. You will review menus, production sheets, and ensure meals are served on time, attractively, and in line with dietary guidelines and budget.

Ideal candidates will have a Food Handler's Certificate, experience with large-quantity cooking in healthcare settings, knowledge of therapeutic diets, and the ability to lift heavy items. Cogir supports inclusive employment and accommodations as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Food Handler's Certificate.
• Red Seal Certificate preferred.
• Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in healthcare or retirement settings.
• Knowledge of provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide.
• Knowledge of and experience with special/therapeutic diets.
• Ability to lift and transfer heavy items; stand for long periods.
• Second language ability is an asset.
• Vulnerable Sector Check (criminal background) or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and/or be responsible for the preparation and delivery of all foods for residents, guests and employees.
• Review menus and production sheets; prepare and serve meals properly and attractively.
• Ensure proper food handling techniques are used.
• Complete daily temperature audits for fridge, freezers and storerooms.
• Prepare and serve foods for therapeutic/special diets according to menus.
• Adhere to time schedules for service; follow production charts and recipes.
• Comply with regulations and departmental policies; work within budget.
• Participate in planning for special occasion meals and meetings; attend training.
• Respect Resident Rights and participate in Quality Improvement activities.
• Follow health and safety legislation and safe job procedures; work with vulnerable adults.
