Job summary

COFOMO, a leading Canadian consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Java Developer in Montreal with hybrid work options. You will design, develop, and maintain secure Java solutions, promote best practices, and mentor teams while collaborating with business and technology partners on prioritized solutions.

The role requires experience in Scrum, CI/CD, testing automation, observability and modern Java stacks, including REST/SOAP, Kubernetes, and cloud concepts.

Qualifications

• Real-world experience in a Scrum team or in an agile environment.
• Software engineering practices promoting quality and continuous delivery: scalable design, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, debt management.
• Proficiency in Java 8+ and Spring Boot, JSP, Struts, Maven, JUnit, JSON.
• Mentoring, facilitating technical discussions, and supporting developers to improve practices.
• Knowledge of clean code, design patterns, software architecture, and application security.
• Strong leadership, collaboration, and clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Coaching to promote skills development and continuous improvement.
• Curiosity, humility, transparency and courage in managing issues and trade-offs.
• Know REST APIs, SOAP, JMS, MQ services; SQL databases in app development.
• Master Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

• Act as a facilitator and technical reference to support the squad in achieving operational excellence.
• Promote software engineering best practices through mentoring, code reviews, collaborative programming, and knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to resolving complex issues, reducing technical debt and evolving products.
• Participate in design, development, documentation, maintenance and evolution of secure, stable Java solutions.
• Guide technical decisions with pragmatic, team-understood choices.
• Evolve testing strategies (unit/integration/functional/end-to-end) with automation and BDD when relevant.
• Drive continuous improvement and establish standards for quality, safety, maintainability and efficiency.
• Collaborate with business and technology partners to analyze needs, evaluate options, and propose prioritized solutions.
