Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking a Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to support mining and heavy industrial projects across Canada. Based in Saskatoon, you will serve as a senior SME guiding instrumentation and control design from concept through commissioning.

You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, lead control narratives, P&IDs, and hardware selections, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and project excellence.

Qualifications

• At least 18+ years of electrical engineering design experience supporting heavy industrial facilities
• Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related Engineering discipline
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility in Canada
• Extensive experience leading and delivering instrumentation and controls engineering within mining or heavy industrial sectors
• Strong expertise in PLC, DCS, SCADA systems, and process automation platforms
• Proven ability to develop control narratives, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and I/O lists
• Experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational support in industrial environments
• Strong understanding of safety systems, hazardous area classification, and applicable codes and standards
• Ability to lead complex projects and mentor junior staff while maintaining high technical excellence

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and act as the senior technical subject matter expert on the delivery of instrumentation and control systems for mining and heavy industrial facilities
• Oversee control philosophy, system architecture, and functional specifications for complex process systems
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teams to ensure fully integrated project solutions
• Drive innovation by applying advanced automation, digitalization, and control technologies
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and quality reviews for project teams
• Support project execution through all phases—from concept to commissioning and operational optimization
• Engage with clients to understand operational needs and deliver tailored, high‑value engineering solutions
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards across all deliverables
