Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lead I&C Engineer based in Ontario to lead instrumentation and controls for mining and heavy industrial facilities. You will own the control narratives, P&IDs, and system architecture, guiding cross-functional teams from concept to commissioning.

The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and performance across Canadian projects. Ideal candidates have 18+ years in electrical design, a relevant engineering degree, and a Canadian P.Eng.

Qualifications

  • 18+ years of electrical engineering design experience in heavy industrial facilities.
  • Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related Engineering discipline.
  • P.Eng. designation or eligibility in Canada.
  • Extensive experience leading instrumentation and controls engineering in mining/heavy industry.
  • Strong expertise in PLC, DCS, SCADA and process automation platforms.
  • Ability to develop control narratives, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and I/O lists.
  • Experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational support.
  • Knowledge of safety systems, hazardous area classification, and applicable codes.

WSP’s Resources subsector, part of our Energy, Resources & Industry business line, supports mining and heavy industrial clients across Canada. Our teams deliver engineering and project execution excellence across the full project lifecycle—from conceptual studies and detailed design to commissioning, optimization, and beyond.

This is your opportunity to shape high‑impact infrastructure, drive innovation in automation and process control, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams delivering transformative outcomes across Canada and globally. Based in one of our Ontario offices—ideally in Northern Ontario, Greater Toronto Area or Saskatoon—as a Lead I&C Engineer, you will support as a senior subject matter expert in instrumentation and controls engineering for new construction and brownfield mining, metals and other heavy industrial projects, influencing project outcomes from concept through completion. Your work will help our clients operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.

The Skills That Set You Apart
  • At least 18+ years of electrical engineering design experience supporting heavy industrial facilities
  • Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related Engineering discipline
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility in Canada
  • Extensive experience leading and delivering instrumentation and controls engineering within mining or heavy industrial sectors
  • Strong expertise in PLC, DCS, SCADA systems, and process automation platforms
  • Proven ability to develop control narratives, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and I/O lists
  • Experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational support in industrial environments
  • Strong understanding of safety systems, hazardous area classification, and applicable codes and standards
  • Ability to lead complex projects and mentor junior staff while maintaining high technical excellence
Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $135,200 – $179,100
MB & ON: $123,300 – $169,800
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $122,100 – $162,200
