Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to shape power systems for mining, metals, and heavy industry projects in Canada. Based in Sudbury, Ontario or Saskatoon, you will lead as a senior SME from concept through completion, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient electrical designs across projects.

You will oversee calculations, coordinate multi-discipline teams, mentor engineers, and ensure regulatory compliance, drawing on 18+ years in the field and P.Eng. credentials.

Qualifications

• 18+ years of electrical engineering design experience in heavy industrial facilities (mining, metals, heavy industry).
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
• Strong knowledge of CSA, ANSI, IEEE and related standards.
• Proficiency with power system modelling tools and control systems.
• Experience leading and mentoring other electrical engineers.
• Experience in power distribution, grounding, heat tracing, fire alarms, cathodic protection.
• Willingness to work at industrial sites with safety requirements.
• Collaborative mindset for multi-discipline project teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and exhibit senior technical expertise in electrical power distribution and control systems for heavy industrial projects.
• Oversee design work from concept through completion, including calculations and field validations.
• Coordinate cross-discipline design activities across offices to ensure seamless execution.
• Develop specifications and data sheets for switchgear, MCCs, transformers, and related equipment.
• Mentor junior staff and build the next generation of electrical engineers.
• Ensure regulatory compliance, safety considerations, and risk analysis throughout design.
