Job summary

WSP invites applications for an Instrumentation and Controls Designer to support our Resources team across Canada, including Ontario. You will design instrumentation, control room layouts, and electrical integration for heavy industrial mining and metals projects.

You will travel to sites for field inspections, implement ISA standards, and collaborate with Electrical Engineering to deliver end-to-end solutions. The role offers growth within a top engineering consultancy.

Qualifications

• Minimum Technical diploma from a reputable post-secondary institution in industrial instrumentation technology or engineering technology.
• At least 10+ years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within a consulting environment with a focus on electrical instrumentation and controls.
• Solid understanding and experience with E&I C installation requirements along with understanding of impact on construction.
• Experience in heavy industrial projects desired - mining and metals projects experience a definite asset.
• Strong command of AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Experience with 3D CADD a benefit.

Responsibilities

• Develop independently – Instrument index, I/O list, Instrument datasheets, Cable schedule, MTOs.
• Design control room layouts, Instrument location layouts, Remote I/O panels, Junction Box layouts, PLC Panel sizing and layouts.
• Develop control philosophy and control narratives with minimum supervision and guidance.
• Apply ISA standards to instrumentation and controls across mining, water treatment, oil & gas, or manufacturing contexts.
• Travel to site for field inspection and as-needed work at client facilities.
• Familiar with CCTV, security access card readers, and fiber optic networks.
• Work on electrical design and drafting tasks in parallel to Instrumentation & Controls.
