Job summary

root/edge is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for high voltage substations and switchyards across a growing solar and storage portfolio. You will own the technical scope from development through commissioning, directing EPCs, coordinating with utilities and vendors, and aligning internal teams to land projects on schedule and budget.

Lead interconnection studies, protection schemes, and HV equipment knowledge while ensuring compliance with NERC PRC/MOD standards.

Qualifications

• 12+ years leading HV substations (115kV–500kV) and MV collection systems for IPP/utility/EPC.
• Experience managing EPCs, consultants, major equipment vendors, and cross-functional teams.
• Strong command of NERC PRC and MOD standards and CAISO/ERCOT requirements.
• Deep understanding of HV/MV equipment, protection schemes, SCADA, and trade-offs between tech performance, cost and schedule.
• Foundation in power-system studies with modeling tools (ETAP/SKM/DIgSILENT/CDEGS/Aspen).

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical program lifecycle for HV substations and switchyards ensuring interconnection standards are met.
• Serve as primary technical liaison across internal teams, utilities, vendors, and EPCs; own interconnection requirements and approvals.
• Define technical boundaries and schedules with clear divisions of responsibility (DOR).
• Audit program health and deploy countermeasures to protect energization and handover.
• Direct EPCs, Engineers of Record, and consultants to optimize designs and reduce risk and cost.
• Own the interconnection scope: modeling and negotiations with ISOs/utilities (CAISO, ERCOT).
• Lead FACTS/Series Compensation reviews when in scope (SVCs, STATCOMs).
• Provide regulatory compliance support (NERC PRC/MOD) and ensure standards alignment.
• Develop and maintain engineering standards, specs, EPC exhibits, and testing protocols.
• Witness FAT/SAT, commissioning, and energization.
• Support EPC RFPs and supplier agreements with technical requirements.
