Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Heavy Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the design, integration, and implementation of major mechanical equipment for hydropower facilities and water-retaining structures across Canada and internationally. The role involves leadership of heavy mechanical systems and collaboration with civil, structural, and electrical teams.

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, P.Eng. eligibility, and a track record of independent project management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years of experience designing heavy mechanical equipment for hydropower facilities.
• P.Eng. with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or eligible for immediate registration.
• Excellent verbal and written communication in French.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical lead for heavy mechanical systems on hydropower and dam projects.
• Establish design criteria and engineering basis for mechanical systems and ensure compliance with codes and client requirements.
• Perform or oversee engineering calculations, analyses, and equipment selection.
• Prepare, review, and approve technical deliverables including drawings, specs, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate mechanical engineering activities with civil, structural, and electrical disciplines.
• Conduct site investigations and incorporate existing site conditions into design solutions.
• Provide technical support during construction, including shop drawings, RFIs, site inspections, and commissioning.
