Job summary

Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. is seeking a Health & Safety Manager to lead the safety function across our Western Canada projects.

You will translate regulatory requirements into practical, on‑site actions and set departmental priorities with operations leaders. Responsibilities include developing and executing the safety strategy, monitoring performance, and driving continuous improvement while maintaining a strong field presence and overseeing training, audits, and contractor prequalifications

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive Health & Safety experience.
• 5+ years in construction, heavy civil, highway maintenance, or similar environments.
• Experience leading safety teams and programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop the Health & Safety team, ensuring accountability, performance, and alignment with company goals.
• Manage departmental priorities, resources, and day-to-day operations to ensure key objectives and commitments are achieved.
• Develop and execute the Health & Safety strategy and annual plan in partnership with operational leadership.
• Monitor safety performance, analyze trends and risks, and provide recommendations to drive continuous improvement.
• Partner with operations leaders to deliver practical safety support and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Maintain a strong field presence by engaging employees, assessing risks, and promoting safe work practices.
• Oversee the Safety Management System, including policies, procedures, audits, inspections, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead safety training, employee engagement, WCB and injury management programs, contractor prequalifications (COR, ISNetworld, ComplyWorks), and National Safety Code compliance.
