The Position

Our Asset Management Business Unit seeks a CPA with extensive Oil and Gas knowledge to start as a Senior Financial Accountant, acting as a client Financial Reporting Lead. This role offers growth into an Accounting Manager position, potentially taking on CFO or Controller duties for our clients. Responsibilities include managing accounting processes, ensuring financial reporting integrity, overseeing payables and treasury, assisting with forecasting, and providing strategic financial advice. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong analytical skills and confidence to suggest improvements in reporting, processes, and controls.

Our Asset Management Business Unit manages engineering, production, liability closures, accounting, land HS&A, and regulatory oversight for junior to mid-sized E&P companies. With over 20 accounting professionals, we provide full-cycle oil and gas finance services, including production accounting, joint ventures, AR/AP, financial reporting, tax, controllership, and CFO duties.

Responsibilities
  • Complete month-end closings, including accruals and financial entries.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for management and clients.
  • Draft quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS/ASPE, including MD&A.
  • Perform financial analysis and reconciliations, ensuring internal controls.
  • Calculate depletion, ARO, accretion, and deferred taxes per IFRS standards.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during audits and present findings.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, analyze variances.
  • Collaborate on cash forecasts for strategic planning.
  • Manage cash flow and working capital.
Advisory
  • Coordinate with auditors, tax advisors, and regulators.
  • Design financial processes and controls, especially during client onboarding or changes.
  • Assess risks and advise on business decisions.
  • Provide strategic financial insights and reports.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Lead filings for taxes, GST, T5/NRV, and payroll.
  • Monitor and advise on IFRS/ASPE and ASC standards.
  • Prepare reports for ESTMA, Statistics Canada, and Modern Slavery.
Financial Controls & Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and month-end processes.
  • Review accounting records and reconciliation.
  • Oversee accounts payable and mentor team members.
  • Promote best practices in accounting principles and controls.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience with upstream oil and gas clients, industry experience within a junior to mid-sized company is an asset.
