Qualifications

  • 2+ years in a senior-level accounting role required.
  • Experience in retail and/or health sector is an asset.

Job description

Join our team on a 15-month maternity leave contract as a Senior Accountant, in our Home Office in Calgary, AB!

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to join our Financial Reporting team on a 15-month contract. In this role, you will support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for the consolidated entity and its subsidiaries, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. You will also handle accounting related to clinic acquisitions and the supporting reconciliations.

We prefer candidates located in Calgary, AB, where our Home Office is based. This is a 15-month maternity leave contract.

What Will You Be Doing?
  • Perform period-end closing procedures, including preparing or approving manual journal entries, working papers, and reconciliations to ensure timely, accurate, and complete financial information.
  • Analyze and reconcile variances between the general ledger, sub-ledger, and systems.
  • Assist in evaluating periodic results, including explaining budget and prior year variances on the income statement and balance sheet.
  • Analyze, review, and present clinic results monthly, quarterly, and annually, providing insights to senior management and clinics.
  • Prepare and analyze journal entries and reconciliations related to clinic acquisitions, including purchase price adjustments, ensuring compliance with purchase and sales agreements and clinic financials.
  • Liaise with other finance team members to consolidate subsidiary balance sheet accounts and leadsheets.
  • Establish, maintain, and improve internal controls, accounting procedures, and SOPs as needed.
  • Support the accounting manager in leading the annual audit.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives around financial reporting and month-end processes.
  • Assist with ad hoc or special projects as required.
As The Successful Candidate You Have
  • CPA designation with 2+ years in a senior-level accounting role.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Netsuite preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of ASPE, financial regulations, and internal controls.
  • Experience in the retail and/or health sector is an asset.
  • High attention to detail, organized, and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with senior leadership and support teams to influence and drive change.
