Job summary

GHD seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead design, analysis and execution of electrical systems for water and wastewater projects. Based in Vancouver, Calgary, or Edmonton, you will guide LV/MV distribution, motor control, standby power, instrumentation, lighting, and life-safety systems while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of electrical consulting and design experience in industrial projects, water/wastewater experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with P.Eng designation in BC or Alberta.
• Expertise in low- and medium-voltage systems, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, protection, and power distribution.
• Experience leading electrical engineering teams, mentoring staff, and driving technical excellence.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects including scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client relationships.
• Strong background in electrical design, calculations, specifications, contract documents, and quality reviews.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and supporting projects through design, tendering, and construction.
• Thorough knowledge of Canadian electrical codes, standards, regulations, and electrical safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership, establish electrical engineering standards, and mentor junior staff.
• Lead complex electrical projects through all phases, managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk.
• Act as the primary technical contact for clients, leading workshops and presenting design solutions.
• Support business development through client relationships, proposals, and fee development.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with clients, utilities, contractors, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
• Direct the design and review of LV/MV power distribution, including switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and VFDs.
• Lead electrical system studies, including protection/coordination, arc flash, short circuit, and power system analysis.
• Oversee calculations, reviews, QC, and professional sealing of engineering documents.
• Support tendering and construction through RFI, shop drawings, inspections, testing plans, and change orders.
• Ensure compliance with Canadian electrical codes and industry standards while driving technical excellence.
