Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. in Calgary, AB, seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer (Water/Wastewater) to lead electrical design for municipal water and wastewater facilities.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate with clients and stakeholders, and contribute to design reviews across multiple projects. The role emphasizes technical leadership in medium- and low-voltage systems, MCCs, standby power, grounding, lighting, SCADA, and integration with instrumentation and controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• P.Eng. registered in Alberta or eligible for registration.
• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in consulting, industrial, municipal, or infrastructure environments.
• Significant experience designing electrical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of CEC, NBCC, CSA Standards, IEEE Standards, NFPA Standards and applicable regulations

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical engineering design for municipal water and wastewater facilities and related infrastructure projects.
• Serve as Electrical Discipline Lead on multidisciplinary projects of varying size and complexity.
• Provide technical leadership, quality oversight, and mentorship to engineers and designers.
• Develop and review designs for medium-voltage up to 25 kV, low-voltage systems, MCCs, standby power, grounding, lighting, communications, and SCADA systems.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders throughout project delivery.
• Participate in project planning, scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and design reviews.
• Support business development activities, proposals, and client relationships.
• Provide construction support, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting as required.
• Contribute to technical excellence initiatives and growth of Electrical and I&C practice across Canada

Your impact

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (Water/Wastewater) to join our Canadian Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) team in Calgary, AB.

This is an opportunity to lead the delivery of complex and high-profile water and wastewater infrastructure projects while helping grow a collaborative and technically strong engineering team. You will serve as a technical leader, mentor, and trusted advisor to clients while providing electrical engineering expertise from planning and design through construction and commissioning.

Our team supports a wide range of projects, including major water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, reservoirs, biosolids facilities, and related municipal infrastructure developments across Western Canada and beyond.

As a senior member of the EIC team, you will influence technical standards, mentor engineers and designers, support project pursuits, and contribute to the continued growth of Jacobs' water business.

What You'll Do:

• Lead electrical engineering design for municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities and related infrastructure projects.
• Serve as Electrical Discipline Lead on multidisciplinary projects of varying size and complexity.
• Provide technical leadership, quality oversight, and mentorship to engineers and designers.
• Develop and review designs for: Medium-voltage power distribution systems up to 25 kV, Low-voltage power distribution systems, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Standby and emergency power systems, Grounding and lightning protection systems, Lighting and lighting control systems, Telecommunications and security systems, Fire alarm systems, Process electrical systems.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders throughout project delivery.
• Participate in project planning, scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and design reviews.
• Support business development activities, proposals, and client relationship management.
• Provide construction support, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting assistance as required.
• Contribute to technical excellence initiatives and the continued growth of the Electrical and I&C practice across Canada.

Here's what you'll need

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in Alberta or eligible for registration.
• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in consulting, industrial, municipal, or infrastructure environments.
• Significant experience designing electrical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of: Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), CSA Standards, IEEE Standards, NFPA Standards and applicable provincial and municipal regulations

Ideally, You'll Also Have:

• Experience serving as Electrical Discipline Lead on major municipal infrastructure projects.
• Experience delivering large water and wastewater treatment plant expansions, upgrades, or greenfield facilities.
• Experience with alternative delivery projects, including Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, and EPCM delivery models.
• Proficiency with power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or EasyPower.
• Experience performing arc flash, coordination, load flow, short circuit, and power quality studies.
• Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM project delivery environments.
• Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
• Understanding of instrumentation, automation, and SCADA systems integration.
• LEED AP, LEED Green Associate, Envision, or other sustainability-related certifications.
