As a member of the site Senior Management Team, the EHS Manager is responsible for the continual improvement and administration of the environmental health and safety program, and facility risk management at Alberta Distillers Ltd (ADL). The EHS Manager provides leadership as site EHS champion, educates plant personnel, mediates potential violations, and provides general expertise in all EHS matters. Additionally, this leader is a key liaison with Suntory Global Spirits Corporate and various government regulatory stakeholders to ensure the EHS program meets or exceeds required guidelines, standards, and legal requirements.

Role Responsibilities

1. Manage and direct the contract security program in EHS matters, policies, procedures, and incident follow-up.
2. Ensure compliance with OH&S and all regulatory bodies.
3. Coordinate the thorough investigation, root cause analysis, and administrative follow-through of all work-related incidents including injury, property damage, environmental, and near miss.
4. Manage ADL key performance indicators (KPIs) related to EHS and report critical EHS KPIs to Beam Suntory Corporate.
5. Complete required regulatory government reporting as necessary in EHS matters.
6. Develop annual safety goals and long-range strategies (3-5 years) to improve site safety programs.
7. Lead by example with high visibility in the plant, engaging regularly in safety activities and promoting safety initiatives.
8. Submit quarterly, monthly, and yearly reports to corporate and regulatory authorities.
9. File permit applications related to EH&S.
10. Serve as ISO 14001 Environmental Management Representative (EMR) and OHSAS 18001 Safety Management Representative (SMR), ensuring certification maintenance and continuous improvement.
11. Implement and maintain Alberta Safety COR program.
12. Work closely with Human Resources to ensure proper injury reporting and compliance with internal, corporate, and government reporting requirements.
13. Manage waste disposal and recycling programs.
14. Manage the annual budget for EHS programs and activities.
15. Participate as a member of the Site Steering Committee (SSC) and serve as the EHS Best Practice Champion.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental, Health, Safety, or related field.
2. Minimum 5-10 years of managing EHS, preferably in manufacturing.
3. Experience in safety prevention programs administration.
4. Familiarity with OH&S, EPA, DOT, FM, NFPA & OSHA regulations; fire prevention knowledge.
5. Experience with Union operations is an asset.
6. Knowledge of ISO standards is an asset.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of learning other software systems.
8. Excellent communication skills and ability to lead change.
9. Strong organizational skills and decision-making ability in emergencies.
10. Compliance with all operational, legal, and safety requirements.
11. Mobility to access all plant areas.
12. Other duties as assigned.
