Job description

DESCRIPTION

To support this priority, Amazon is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Site Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for partnering with the site-level operations team to execute company WHS policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations. By leveraging lean principles and Kaizen events, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risks, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for our associates.

In this role, you must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with cross-functional operations teams and influence change through comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis. You must be an effective communicator, delivering clear, concise, and consistent messages both verbally and in writing. You will also be required to instruct and train operations leadership and site WHS professionals in company EHS policies and assist regional teams in incorporating safety standards at their sites. Your experience in safety programs and relevant safety, environmental, and ergonomic knowledge in an operations environment will be crucial.

You will be responsible for developing a team of safety managers and safety professionals at your designated site. Your success will depend on your ability to create and execute leadership development plans for your team. You must demonstrate the ability to communicate organizational direction effectively and assess safety talent to ensure appropriate bench strength for current and future needs. Additional responsibilities include:

  1. Act as SME of local/regional regulations and company WHS policy.
  2. Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon Safety Policies.
  3. Measure site performance against published safety requirements, identify deficiencies, and develop plans to address them.
  4. Ensure safety record keeping and data integrity, providing accurate reporting and metrics to support safety initiatives.
  5. Deliver timely and quality safety projects to Operations.
  6. Analyze safety metrics and incident trends weekly and monthly to identify high-risk areas and justify resource allocation.
  7. Propose action plans to senior leadership based on trend analysis.
  8. Audit record-keeping practices and safety database entries for compliance.
  9. Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure training and auditing methods are effective.
  10. Manage and mentor safety managers and safety associates.
  11. Engage Injury Prevention Specialists and site leadership to drive incident reduction strategies.
  12. Perform targeted Kaizen events based on identified risks.
  13. Ensure site leadership and associates are trained and aware of their safety responsibilities.
  14. Audit the quality and effectiveness of safety training and tools, revising as needed for continuous improvement.
  15. Partner with corporate and regional safety teams to incorporate global best practices into regional standards.

In addition, you must demonstrate strong communication skills, leadership, and the ability to influence change effectively within a safety-focused environment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations, or relevant experience
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in people and performance management
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvements in operational settings
  • Willingness to work various shifts, including nights and weekends, as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree (preferred)
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (preferred)
  • Experience in fast-paced, dynamic organizations
  • Interest in long-term career development across multiple facilities
  • Management development training experience
  • Proven ability to manage safety operations with diverse staff
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
