Job summary

Horizon New Energy in Calgary is seeking a Commercial Manager to grow our Canadian renewable energy portfolio, leading commercial strategy, analysis and execution for wind, solar and storage projects.

You will work with the Managing Director and CIP’s investment team to develop business cases, manage bid strategy and negotiations, and drive profitability across Canada’s provincial markets, including Alberta and Ontario.

Qualifications

• 5-10+ years of power origination/marketing experience in renewables.
• Experience with renewable energy project RFP submissions is asset.
• Experience originating and negotiating PPAs in the past 5 years.
• Strong negotiation and deal-structuring skills.
• Knowledge of Alberta and/or Ontario electricity markets.
• Ability to develop and analyse project pro formas.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate project acquisition opportunities and perform due diligence and financial analysis.
• Lead or support negotiations for project acquisitions at various development stages.
• Provide commercial guidance for greenfield development of wind, solar and storage assets.
• Negotiate Indigenous equity partnerships with Indigenous communities.
• Prepare bid strategies for provincial procurements and PPAs; build and evaluate pro formas.
• Prepare monthly SteerCo and annual board analyses and reporting; support governance.
• Collaborate with legal and accounting to establish project entities; manage risk.
