Job summary

AgeCare is seeking a Recreation Worker to plan, develop, and run a range of meaningful recreation and leisure activities for residents in long-term care. The role emphasizes wellbeing, creativity, and community, with opportunities to support residents at home and in the community.

Successful candidates will have prior experience with seniors and hold a diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies or a related field, with enrollment allowed if within three years of completion.

Qualifications

• Experience working with seniors in long-term care is preferred.
• Diploma/degree in recreation and leisure studies, or related field, from college or university.
• Enrollment in a related program with the intent to complete within three years of hire.
• Health care related diploma/degree with demonstrated skills in recreation services.

Responsibilities

• Assists in development, planning and implementing daily recreation and leisure activities in the home and community.
• Creates and maintains engaging spaces/environments that support meaningful resident activity.
• Maintains communications with residents, families, volunteers and community groups.
• Observes, reports and documents changes in residents' ability to participate, updating care plans as needed.
• Supports departments to foster resident engagement and participation.
• Participates in ongoing evaluation of the recreation program and quality improvement processes.
