Position
The Senior Accountant contributes to the overall success of Rundle College Society by effectively supporting the financial activities of the organization. They are responsible for translating the financial activities of the organization into clear, accurate and compliant reports that allow leadership, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to understand Rundle’s financial story.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the mission, vision and values of Rundle.
Lead the monthly financial close process, including the preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis, ensuring the Society’s financial accounts reflect accurate balances.
Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends and variances, providing strategic recommendations to management to support informed decision making.
Maintain the organization’s chart of accounts.
Direct the budget development process, collaborating with the senior leadership team to establish financial plans and overseeing the consolidation of the overall organizational budget.
Responsible for position management, including developing and implementing controls to prevent hiring beyond budgeted limits, conducting monthly forecasting and analysis of salaries and benefits against year-end projections, and accurately developing and analyzing the annual budget.
Manage all aspects of the year-end financial reporting process, serving as the primary point of contact for the annual audit, charity return, Alberta Education, Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS), and other regulatory filings.
Oversee compliance with payroll and GST filing legislation, ensuring all submissions are accurate and timely.
Take ownership of the Accounts Payable cycle review and final approval of weekly payments, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
Spearhead the management of accounting functions, proactively identifying areas for improvement.
Drive the identification and implementation of process improvements and lead the maintenance of system configurations.
Develop and implement new policies to ensure best practices and compliance.
Mentor and guide other team members, fostering their understanding of financial processes and promoting financial literacy across the organization.

Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations.
Proficiency in the use of account systems (currently using Sage), Microsoft Office products and Google applications.
Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel. Candidates will be required to demonstrate proficiency.
Data analytics and experience with Power BI is considered an asset.
Strong attention to detail with a high level of technical competence.
Ability to work accurately with minimal supervision, manage multiple and shifting priorities, and consistently meet deadlines.
Qualifications
Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
3-5 years progressive experience working in an accounting role.
Experience working in an educational institution or audit is considered an asset.
