Job summary

Fairmont Royal York in Toronto is seeking a skilled Cook to uphold the highest standards in the kitchen under the guidance of the Chef de Partie/Sous Chef. You will prepare items, follow standardized recipes, and maintain a clean, safe workstation to ensure uninterrupted guest service.

We value excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a minimum of two years cooking experience, preferably in a luxury hotel. This role offers competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years cooking experience.
  • Experience in a luxury hotel is an asset.
  • City of Toronto Food Handler Certificate required.
  • Certificate or Diploma from a recognized Culinary School.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of food quality and presentation as directed by Chef de Partie/Sous Chef.
  • Prepare food items per standards to ensure no interruption to guest service.
  • Adhere to standardized recipes to maintain consistency.
  • Keep workstation clean and organized; manage refrigeration and countertops.
  • Ensure opening/closing procedures are carried out to standard.
  • Minimize food waste and properly rotate/store food to reduce costs.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and follow Food Safety guidelines.
  • Report deficiencies in equipment or food quality promptly.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Description
  • Maintain the highest standards of food quality and presentation in workstation as directed by the Chef de Partie/Sous Chef on duty. Works within the station in clean safe and efficient manner in accordance with the policy’s procedures and standards of the kitchen.
  • Prepares the necessary food items as directed by the Chef de Partie/Sous Chef, in accordance with standards in a timely and efficient fashion to ensure that there is no interruption to guest service.
  • Adhere to standardized recipes and specifications in order to maintain consistency and ensure all standards are met.
  • Keeps workstation clean & organized including fridge/freezers, countertops, range tops.
  • Ensures that station opening and closing procedures are carried out to standard.
  • Keeps overproduction and food waste to a minimum, ensures proper rotation, labeling, and storing of food in order to reduce food cost expense.
  • Operate all kitchen equipment and conduct themselves with safety in mind at all times.
  • Ensures that all food products are handled, stored, prepared and served safely in accordance with hotel and government Food Safety guidelines.
  • Report any and all deficiencies in kitchen equipment functionality and quality of food products to Chef de Partie/Sous Chef in a timely manner.
  • Complete other job-related duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years cooking experience
  • Experience in a luxury hotel with comparable service and standards an asset
  • Valid City of Toronto Food Handler Certificate required
  • Certificate or Diploma from a recognized Culinary School
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
