Job description

City Experiences is seeking a Second Cook for our City Cruises operation in Toronto.

Please note, this is a seasonal contract position.

About the Opportunity :

The Second Cook is responsible for preparing and assisting in producing food items such as à la carte, buffets, and banquets, according to the specifications set by the Head Chef and Food & Beverage department. The Second Cook must be flexible, open-minded, and willing to assist in all aspects of food production within the kitchen (galley) at any time. Their goal is to ensure high food quality, value, consistency, and guest satisfaction.

Responsibilities :
  • Operate the station, serve, and prepare products according to specifications, in an organized and clean manner, as directed by the Head Chef or designate.
  • Prepare banquet food following quality, quantity, taste, and presentation standards.
  • Handle food preparation, service, and cleaning procedures for assigned menu items and equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in the workstation and equipment.
  • Prepare and store soups, peel, cut, and cook meats, fish, vegetables, and starches.
  • Assist in controlling food costs by managing leftovers and storage procedures.
  • Ensure all food is issued with proper documentation and authorization.
  • Communicate with other departments to coordinate activities.
  • Keep mise-en-place up to date prior to days off.
  • Maintain awareness of product quality, storage, and stock levels.
  • Participate in requisitioning, receiving, and storage of products.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including food safety standards.
  • Participate in pre-shift and post-shift meetings.
  • Assist in inventories and ordering as needed.
  • Contribute to kitchen activities to ensure passenger satisfaction.
  • Continuously seek to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure presentation of plating and buffets meets standards.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements & Qualifications :
  • Minimum two (2) years’ kitchen experience.
  • Food Handler’s Certificate.
  • Hospitality or Culinary degree is an asset.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic personality.
  • Ability to follow directions and work under supervision.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform strenuous tasks.
  • Willingness to wear PPE and adhere to safety standards.
