The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides professional nursing care to residents in accordance with required medical care and professional nursing practice. The RPN may provide direction to Personal Support Workers as defined by the College of Nurses Standard of Practice.

Qualifications

• Geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care nursing background.
• Knowledge of Canadian health statutes and nursing standards.
• Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and member in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with the Registered Nurse to implement AgeCare policies on the unit.
• Contributes to revision of procedures within the residence and unit.
• Liaises with physicians and other health care team members including external partners.
• Notifies physician of significant changes if the RN is unavailable.
• Works with the health care team to meet residents' care needs.
• Provides direction to Personal Support Workers on the care team.
• Participates in shift reports to inform the team of changes in resident status.
