Job summary

WorkSafeBC is seeking a Return to Work Specialist to support injured workers in their recovery and safe return to work. The role involves developing individualized plans, collaborating with healthcare providers, employers and workers, and guiding benefits decisions.

Based in an assigned office with potential site visits, Richmond or Kelowna locations are available. The position emphasizes compassionate, client-focused service, strong decision-making, and the ability to manage a high-volume

Qualifications

  • Experience in disability management and return-to-work planning.
  • Ability to develop and monitor individualized return-to-work plans.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized return-to-work plans bridging workers’ abilities and job demands.
  • Collaborate with health care providers, employers and workers to support recovery and return to work.
  • Weigh evidence and interpret policy to determine eligibility for benefits.
  • Authorize appropriate diagnostic referrals and consultations.
  • Educate workers, employer groups, and healthcare providers on return-to-work strategies.

You may also be required to attend site visits and interact directly with injured workers,health care providers and workers.

What you'll do
  • Develop,implement, and monitor individualized return-to-work plans that bridge the gapbetween the workers’ abilities and the critical job demands
  • Collaboratewith health care providers, employers and workers to assist in the developmentof recovery and return to work plans
  • Weigh evidenceand interpret policy to determine workers’ eligibility for benefits
  • Authorizeappropriate diagnostic referrals and consultations
  • Developsupportive, collaborative, and respectful relationships with workers,employers, and health care providers
  • Educateworkers, worker representative groups, employers, industry groups, and healthcare providers about strategies for returning to work and managing disabilities
  • Visitworksites to assess critical job demands as required
  • Consistently models theappropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBCemployees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, andforward thinking.

We’re lookingfor people who can:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of occupational health anddisability management principles, including return-to-work planning
  • Demonstrate care and compassion while buildingrelationships and developing effective recovery and return-to-work plans
  • Make timely, independent decisions by applying lawand policy to a set of complicated and challenging facts that address benefits,medical management, disability status and employability issues
  • Document, explain, and present detailed and complexinformation orally and in writing
  • Apply organizational and decision-making skills tomanage a high-volume caseload

Your background and experience

  • A universitydegree in a related discipline such as disability management, healthsciences, kinesiology, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, socialwork, psychology or vocational rehabilitation.
  • Aminimum of two years of work experience that includes directly related experience indisability management and return-to-work planning
  • A valid B.C.driver’s license

We’ll consider equivalent combinations of education andexperience.
