Job summary

WorkSafeBC in Richmond, BC is seeking a Co-op Student for Health Care Operations to support processing of health care accounts for workers' compensation claims. Responsibilities

  • Assist in processing health care accounts for services and goods provided to injured workers.
  • Determine the validity of health care related charges via validation queues.
  • Streamline workflow processes by gathering data, testing and validating current practices.
  • Prepare and send correspondence to claimants and related parties when health care benefits are adjudicated.
  • Identify and correct accounts incorrectly billed; calculate and process credits on accounts.

The Health Care Operations department of WorkSafeBC is looking for a Co-op Student, Health Care Operations to join our team to assist in the processing of accounts for all health care related expenses associated with claims.

This is an eight-month temporary opportunity starting on December29, 2026.

This role is based in our Richmond office five days a week.

What you\'ll do

On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.


During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip you for success. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager to discuss your goals and align them with the team\'s vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization\'s mandate. You will also work through the onboarding program alongside your supervisor for added guidance and support.


This role is ideal for an individual who is eager to step beyond their comfort zone. We are looking for someone with a detective mindset, strong motivation, and a passion for innovation. The right candidate will possess analytical and critical thinking skills, enabling them to propose ideas that enhance various processes and initiatives, as well as to explore new approaches to work within the department.



  • Assist in processing health care accounts for services and goods provided to injured workers in accordance with the Workers Compensation Act and WorkSafeBC policies.

  • Determine the validity of health care related charges via validation queues.

  • Streamline workflow processes by gathering data, testing and validating current practices.

  • Prepare and send a variety of correspondence to claimants and other related parties when health care benefits are adjudicated.

  • Assist in identifying and correcting accounts incorrectly billed; calculate and process credits on accounts incorrectly paid.

Your background and experience


  • Enrolled in an undergraduate program at a post-secondary institution

  • Some low-level coding experience/interest is an asset
