Job summary

WorkSafeBC in Kelowna, BC, seeks an experienced Manager, Medical Services to lead medical advisory services and guide disability management initiatives. You will supervise Medical Advisors and physician consultants, align programs with organizational strategy, and report to Clinical Services.

You will recruit, mentor staff, manage the department budget, and travel as needed to meet operational goals, with a flexible mix of onsite and remote work.

As Manager, Medical Services, you will provide leadership and strategic direction for the delivery of medical advisory services, ensuring practices and programs align with organizational objectives and the evolving needs of clients and stakeholders. In this role, you'll oversee physician advisory practice related to disability management, emerging medical issues, and the ongoing development of services that support Claims and Rehabilitation Services in achieving strategic and operational priorities.

Reporting within Clinical Services, you will lead and support a team of Medical Advisors and physician consultants, fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment focused on service excellence. You will be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of medical advisory services to injured workers, employers, and other stakeholders, while ensuring alignment with WorkSafeBC's values and strategic plan.

This role combines time in our offices with flexibility for remote work.

This position is based in our Kelowna office; however, alternative office locations may be considered for the successful candidate.

We offer a flexible Monday to Friday work week with either a full-time schedule (37.5 hours per week) or a part-time schedule (minimum 22.5 hours per week).

What you'll do

• Manage Medical Advisors and physician consultants to achieve quality and timeliness standards and related customer service objectives
• Work collaboratively with a team of Medical Services Managers to assess, monitor, and anticipate resource needs while developing, implementing, and overseeing key department initiatives and goals in cooperation with medical and non-medical divisional and departmental team members
• Implement processes and structures to engage Medical Services staff, divisional and departmental staff, and the external health care community in a continuous quality improvement process of service delivery
• Lead some departmental projects and initiatives
• Cultivate and maintain a collaborative working relationship with community physicians, regulatory bodies, Ministry of Health, teaching institutions, and all internal divisions
• Provide the Chief Medical Officer, the Chief Mental Health Officer, and the Executive Leadership Team with leadership and subject matter expert advice in relation to professional and strategic matters such as emerging issues and community healthcare practice changes that affect WorkSafeBC
• Be responsible for recruitment, orientation, evaluation, and mentoring of staff
• Manage financial resources within your departmental budget and monitor financial reporting
• Travel as required to meet operational and management needs

Your background and experience

• A medical degree and registration in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC
• A minimum of five years of practice experience
• Sound knowledge of general occupational medicine
• Management/administrative experience in a complex health care environment is an asset

Salary:

$265,318 - $280,384/annually
