Job summary

Big Bear Eatery and Taphouse in Canada is seeking a friendly host to manage takeout orders, phone calls, and seating. This entry-level role offers training potential to become a server or bartender in the future. You would handle to go orders, calls, seating guests, and assist with bussing when possible.

Salary: $18.51 per hour plus tips from takeout orders and tip out from servers. Negotiable for the right candidate. Minimal lifting, long hours on your feet, and a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service.
• Assist guests regarding menu items in an informative and helpful way.
• Have full knowledge of beverage lists and promotions.
• Have full knowledge of all menu items, garnishes, contents and preparation methods.
• Let patrons know of wait times and contact them as a table becomes available.
• Answer the phone and take takeout orders.
• Seat guests at designated tables and take drink orders, if necessary.
• Take DoorDash orders and send them to kitchen, balance orders with in-house traffic.
• Organize takeout orders, ensuring they are accurate.
• Occasionally de-escalate hangry customers if there are issues with their order, or provide contact info for a manager.
• Assist servers in removing empty dishes from tables, or running food to tables.

Looking for a host

Our ideal candidate is someone who can remain calm with a hundred things going on and isn't afraid to answer the phone. Host is an entry level position, and you may have the opportunity to train as a server or bartender in the future. You would be in charge of handling to go orders, phone calls, seating guests, and assisting with bussing when possible. There is minimal lifting, but extended hours on your feet. All takeout tips are collected by the host, and they are tipped out by the servers.
