Job summary

Equitable in Canada seeks a seasoned underwriter to lead large-case Life and Critical Illness underwriting from a home office, with optional in-person at our Waterloo, ON office as needed. You will evaluate medical, financial, and legal factors to determine risk classifications and maintain competitive pricing.

You will collaborate with lawyers, accountants, medical experts, advisors, and reinsurers to ensure timely turnaround and superior service.

Qualifications

• University degree or higher; professional designations such as FALU and FLMI.
• 10+ years underwriting experience in Life and Critical Illness risk assessment.
• Strong technical underwriting expertise in mortality and morbidity risk assessment.
• Experience with jumbo limits, reinsurance, and large-case market.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to influence and negotiate.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite complex large-case Life and Critical Illness applications.
• Assess risks using medical and financial underwriting expertise.
• Negotiate with reinsurers, MGAs, advisors, and partners.
• Communicate underwriting decisions to advisors and applicants.
• Mentor junior underwriters and lead process improvements.
• Provide technical leadership through audits and reviews.
