Job summary

Equitable in Waterloo, Ontario is seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our Group Underwriting team. This hybrid role combines in-office collaboration with flexible days, supporting a diverse client base across Canada.

You will conduct risk assessments, set pricing, and prepare underwriting proposals for new and renewal business, while coaching colleagues and contributing to process improvements and knowledge sharing within the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/College degree or equivalent
• 3–5 years of Group benefits knowledge and experience
• Strong understanding of Group benefits underwriting principles
• Proven ability to assess risk and analyze data to make sound underwriting decisions

Responsibilities

• Perform risk assessment, pricing, and formal proposals for new business across all complexity levels, including large/complex cases
• Conduct annual renewals for existing Group benefits clients, review risk and profitability, determine pricing, and generate renewal reports
• Evaluate requests for alternate funding arrangements and ensure adherence to underwriting practices
• Review requests for alternate costings on existing business and provide risk-based recommendations
• Generate accurate underwriting proposals that meet standards and SLAs
• Make informed decisions on Administrative and Claim Exception requests with risk considerations
• Track and achieve quality and quantity performance standards with accuracy
• Provide coaching and knowledge-sharing support for Underwriting team members
• Support Group benefits training initiatives for Underwriters, new team members, and Group Marketing Managers
• Maintain/update process documentation and the Group Underwriting Manual to address operational risk opportunities
