Job summary

Affirm is hiring an Engineering Manager for Developer Environments. You will lead the team that builds and operates the platforms enabling environment provisioning, test execution, and automated developer infrastructure across development and CI workflows.

You’ll shape the strategy, mentor engineers, and partner with CI/CD, infrastructure, security, and product teams to improve developer velocity and reliability across a large, remote-first FinTech organization.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience and 2+ years in engineering management.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams in infrastructure, platform engineering, developer productivity, or adjacent domains.
• Strong technical background in backend/infrastructure systems (Python or Kotlin preferred).
• Experience building and operating cloud-native systems (AWS, Kubernetes) and using infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Hands-on familiarity with containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI/CD systems (Buildkite, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Track record of operating services with a high reliability bar (monitoring, on-call, incident response, postmortems, hardening).
• Strong communication and leadership skills; able to mentor and grow high-performing teams.
• Comfort balancing trade-offs between build vs. buy, speed vs. safety, and developer experience vs. operational constraints.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the vision for Developer Environments and inner-loop productivity.
• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale; align with business goals.
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers; foster ownership and technical excellence.
• Partner with engineering leadership to align priorities with product, platform, and reliability goals.
• Own design, scalability, reliability, and usability of developer environments in development and CI contexts.
• Improve environment provisioning, stability, and teardown workflows to boost developer velocity.
