Job summary

Affirm seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the Account Management tech team, owning a full-stack, customer-facing platform that handles auth, identity and security states. You’ll guide a cross-functional group across product, design, analytics, and risk, building scalable backend systems and modern web apps with React/Vue.

You will shape long-term roadmaps, set OKRs, remove blockers, and drive engineering culture while mentoring managers and engineers.

Qualifications

• 6-8+ years in software engineering with 3+ years in management or equivalent leadership.
• Experience delivering consumer-facing software and navigating ambiguity to drive execution.
• Design, develop, and launch backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Develop web apps with declarative UI frameworks like React or Vue.
• Strong technical judgement for architecture decisions and engineering practices.
• Hands-on leadership: code reviews, pairing, and direct contribution when needed.
• Proven track record in stakeholder management and delivering outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to grow, lead, and support high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of engineering managers and software engineers, supporting growth and performance.
• Create a long-term technical roadmap to keep pace with business growth.
• Establish OKRs and metrics to steer the team and measure success.
• Remove roadblocks, prioritize work, and maintain high productivity and morale.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and tools.
• Collaborate with product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainability and informed decisions.
• Own availability and performance of the team's systems.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and hands-on mentoring when needed.
• Foster an innovative, accountable, and team-first engineering culture.
• Coach and develop growth plans for managers and ICs; drive hiring and onboarding.
