Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Equipment Operator to join our materials recovery team in Fort McMurray.

You will safely operate heavy equipment to load bulk recyclables into open-top trailers, ensuring proper weight distribution and adherence to safety and environmental standards. Ideal candidates have 1–2 years of experience with heavy equipment in recycling or construction, a valid operator certification if available, and the physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in waste, recycling, or construction.
• High school diploma or GED; certification preferred.
• Strong spatial awareness and weight distribution understanding.

Responsibilities

• Trailer Loading & Material Transfer: Operate loaders and material handlers to scoop, sort, and transfer bulk recyclables into open-top trailers.
• Payload & Distribution Management: Monitor material levels to ensure loads are distributed evenly across trailer axles, staying within weight limits.
• Quality Control: Visually inspect incoming and loaded recyclables to identify contaminants before shipping.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections; clean debris; report issues to maintenance.
• Site Safety & Cleanliness: Tarps, secure trailer tops, assist drivers with positioning, keep loading zones clear.
