Candidates should possess a Grade 12 education and relevant certificates in recreation, as well as strong interpersonal skills to effectively support residents and volunteers. The position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from CA$27.92 to CA$29.60.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a senior-focused environment is a plus.
  • Dementia course is an asset.
  • Valid Class 4 BC Driver’s License required.
  • All applicants must pass a Criminal Record Check.

Base pay range

CA$27.92 / hr - CA$29.60 / hr

This position is covered under the HEABC wage levelling. Please note the wage is currently being adjusted and topped up by the government and the displayed wage is therefore reflective of such initiative.

About The Role

The Recreation Programmer reports to the Therapeutic Recreation Manager / Recreation Manager or designate. The Recreation Programmer supports the implementation and evaluation of activity programs to meet the holistic needs and interests of persons served, while maintaining the rights of residents and ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.

Responsibilities
  • Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
  • Promotes, publicizes and carries out established recreation programs such as outings, exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, games.
  • Assists residents and provide portering to and from programs as required
  • Observes, documents and reports any changes in residents to the supervisor and / or nurse.
  • Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through: accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and utilizing infection control procedures
  • Maintains appropriate documentation as per policy and procedures, confidentiality and security.
  • Actively participates in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees and educational in-services.
  • Assists in the maintenance of statistical records using programs such as Activity Pro, Point Click Care, etc.
  • Assists with orientation of new residents and encourages residents to participate or volunteer in their own community.
  • Provides guidance, assistance and support to volunteers. Assists in the evaluation of volunteers.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Grade 12 Education
  • Graduate from a recognized Activity / Recreation Certificate program.
  • Previous experience in a senior’s focused environment an asset.
  • Dementia course an asset.
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 Certificate.
  • Serving It Right Certificate.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset.
  • Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver’s License.
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
