Job summary

Shannex Incorporated is seeking a Wellness Coach for Parkland at the Common in Halifax, Nova Scotia. You will collaborate with residents to promote holistic wellness, plan meaningful activities, and support program initiatives in a supportive care community.

The role emphasizes engagement across physical, social, intellectual, vocational, emotional, and spiritual wellness, with opportunities to lead partnerships and education efforts within Shannex’s wellness team.

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education in recreation/leisure studies is required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
  • Proficient computer skills are required.
  • Proof of current, valid First Aid & CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients to assess engagement in meaningful activities across the six wellness dimensions.
  • Assist clients in achieving personal wellness goals and define strategies to reach them.
  • Develop, analyze and review client-directed programs at the community level.
  • Foster partnerships with local businesses and community groups to support program development.
  • Oversee orientation for new clients to wellness services and monitor program effectiveness.

We are searching for a Wellness Coach to join our PARKLAND AT THE COMMON team based in HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA.

About The Opportunity
  • Collaborating with each client to assess their engagement of meaningful activities in the six dimensions of wellness - Physical, Social, Intellectual, Vocational, Emotional, and Spiritual
  • Assisting each client in achieving their goals to enhance their overall wellness and assist with defining strategies for achieving those goals
  • Developing, analyzing and reviewing client-directed individualized and community-wide programs
  • Fostering partnerships with local businesses and community groups to facilitate program development
  • Managing the Harmony Program technology to enhance communication with clients and staff
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the resident-directed Philosophy of Service
  • Evaluating the Harmony Program to ensure that the program is meeting the clients’ needs and expectations along with upholding the established expectations of the program
  • Collaborating with the Harmony & Wellness team to develop a plan for full-scope wellness programming in the Hospitality & Wellness, Assisted Living and Memory Care service lines
  • Working as a member of the Wellness Team toward the departmental goals and priorities
  • Oversees the process of orientation for each new client to the wellness department and services
  • Provides ongoing encouragement to clients in areas such as participation, volunteering, making independent decisions, and voicing personal preferences and choices.
  • Develops and manages the volunteer program including recruiting and screening, placement, orientation and education, and recognition and evaluation. Plans, supervises and evaluates student placements
  • Oversees the development and implementation of corrective action plans and communicates to staff where appropriate
  • Completes departmental reports as required
  • Reports areas and equipment in need of repair to the maintenance
  • Additional assigned duties as assigned/required
About You
  • Post-Secondary education in recreation/leisure studies, or another related program
  • You are an energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly and has experience in programming and planning for seniors in a recreational environment
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as strong computer skills
  • Proof of current, valid First Aid & CPR certification is required
  • Proof of valid Right to Serve Certification is required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check prior to appointment
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
