Job summary

Umbrella Family in Hamilton, Ontario is seeking an RECE Before and After Educator to support children and their families by developing and implementing programs that meet developmental needs and interests. You will create meaningful play experiences, provide healthy snacks, supervise activities, and ensure safety in a warm, collaborative environment.

The role emphasizes supporting children, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing to a welcoming, well-organized program.

Qualifications

• ECE diploma and good standing with the College of ECE
• Related childcare experience
• Knowledge of behaviour guidance strategies
• Familiar with How Does Learning Happen? framework
• Experience planning and implementing programs for JK/SK and school-age children
• Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Flexible to adapt to different responsibilities and schedules

Responsibilities

• Greet children and families with warmth and professionalism
• Support children as they transition from home to program, including self-regulation and social engagement
• Engage children in meaningful activities using a programming cart of materials
• Provide morning snacks, ensuring hygiene and safety
• Help children tidy up and prepare for their school day, including appropriate outdoor play
• Set up and facilitate activities aligned with How Does Learning Happen?
• Supervise snack and ensure all children eat safely
• Provide indoor and outdoor play opportunities and support children’s interests
• Monitor children’s behaviour, offering guidance as needed

Location:

RosedaleCentre, 25 Erindale Ave,Hamilton, ONL8K 4R2

Total Hours per Week:

27.75hours per week, includes 1.5 hours programming time

Schedule:

Monday to Friday,7:00 am to 8:30 amand2:15 pm to 6:00 pm

Pay Rate (per Collective Agreement, includes wage grants):

$28.00per hour

About the Role

As an RECE Before and After School Educator, your primary responsibility is to be present for children and their families while developing and implementing programs that meet their developmental needs and interests. You will create meaningful play experiences, provide healthy snacks, supervise outdoor and indoor activities, and ensure the safety and well-being of children in your care.

Duties vary by centre, but your role always includes supporting children, assisting colleagues, and contributing to a welcoming and well‑organized environment.

Qualifications

• Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE) and member in good standing with the College of ECEs
• Related experience in a childcare setting
• Demonstrated knowledge and working ability to effectively interact with children requiring behavioural guidance
• Demonstrated knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?
• Experience in program planning and implementation for JK/SK and school-aged children
• Excellent problem‑solving, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Flexibility to adapt to a variety of responsibilities and schedules
• Passion for supporting children, families, and colleagues in a positive, team‑focused environment

Certifications:

• Good standing and active registration with the College of ECE
• Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
• Proof ofup-to-date immunizations(TB, Tetanus, MMR)
