Job summary

Umbrella Family and Child Centres of Hamilton is seeking a Part-time Before and After Educator in Dundas, Ontario. Join a team that values caring for children and families, supports creativity in programming, and fosters professional growth in a collaborative setting.

The role involves creating developmentally appropriate activities, supervising meals and outdoor play, and ensuring safety while partnering with families.

Qualifications

• ECE diploma or equivalent with good standing in the College of ECEs.
• Related child care experience and ability to support children.
• Knowledge of How Does Learning Happen? in practice.
• Experience planning and implementing JK/SK and school-aged programs.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet children and families with warmth and professionalism.
• Support children during transitions from home to program.
• Engage children in meaningful activities using a programming cart of materials.
• Provide morning snacks and ensure safe eating for all children.
• Help children tidy up and prepare for their school day, including outdoor play when appropriate.
• Set up and facilitate activities aligned with How Does Learning Happen?.
• Supervise snack and ensure all children eat safely.
• Provide indoor and outdoor play opportunities and support children’s interests.
• Monitor children’s behaviour and offer guidance as needed.

Location: Dundana Centre, 23 Dundana Ave, Dundas, ON L9H 4E5

Total Hours per Week: 27.75 with 1.5 hours programming time

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-9:15am 3:00pm-6:00pm

Pay Rate (per Collective Agreement, includes wage grants):

• RECE- $28.90 per hour
• Non RECE- $26.35

About The Role

As a Before and After School Educator, your primary responsibility is to be present for children and their families while developing and implementing programs that meet their developmental needs and interests. You will create meaningful play experiences, provide healthy snacks, supervise outdoor and indoor activities, and ensure the safety and well-being of children in your care.

Duties vary by centre, but your role always includes supporting children, assisting colleagues, and contributing to a welcoming and well‑organized environment.

Qualifications

• Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE) and member in good standing with the College of ECEs OR educational requirements to obtain Director’s Approval for working alone with children
• Related experience in a childcare setting
• Demonstrated knowledge and working ability to effectively interact with children requiring behavioural guidance
• Demonstrated knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?
• Experience in program planning and implementation for JK/SK and school-aged children
• Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Flexibility to adapt to a variety of responsibilities and schedules
• Passion for supporting children, families, and colleagues in a positive, team‑focused environment

Certifications:

• Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
• Proof of up‑to‑date immunizations (TB, Tetanus, MMR)

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide morning snacks, ensuring children wash hands and eat safely
• Help children tidy up and prepare for their school day, including outdoor play as appropriate

• Monitor children’s behaviour, offering guidance and support as needed
