Job summary

Umbrella Family in Stoney Creek, ON is seeking a part-time Before and After School Educator to welcome children and families and deliver engaging programs aligned with development needs. Primary duties include supervising activities, providing healthy snacks, and ensuring safe transitions from home to the program.

You will work Monday to Friday, 7:00am-9:30am and 3:15pm-6:00pm, totaling about 27.75 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Related experience in a childcare setting is preferred.
• Ability to interact effectively with children needing behavioural guidance.
• Knowledge of How Does Learning Happen? practices is desirable.
• Experience in planning and implementing programs for JK/SK and school-aged children.

Responsibilities

• Greet children and families with warmth and professionalism.
• Support children as they transition from home to program, including self-regulation and social engagement.
• Engage children in meaningful activities using a programming cart of materials.
• Provide morning snacks and ensure safe handwashing and food handling.
• Help children tidy up and prep for school day, including outdoor play as appropriate.
• Set up and facilitate activities aligned with How Does Learning Happen?
• Supervise snack and ensure all children eat safely.
• Provide indoor and outdoor play opportunities aligned with children's interests.
• Monitor behaviour, offering guidance and support as needed.

Total Hours per Week: 27.75

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-9:30am & 3:15pm-6:00pm

Pay Rate (per Collective Agreement, includes wage grants):

• RECE- $28.90 per hour
• Non RECE- $26.35

About the Role

As a Before and After School Educator, your primary responsibility is to be present for children and their families while developing and implementing programs that meet their developmental needs and interests. You will create meaningful play experiences, provide healthy snacks, supervise outdoor and indoor activities, and ensure the safety and well-being of children in your care.

Duties vary by centre, but your role always includes supporting children, assisting colleagues, and contributing to a welcoming and well-organized environment.

Qualifications

• Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE) and member in good standing with the College of ECEs OR educational requirements to obtain Director’s Approval for working alone with children
• Related experience in a childcare setting
• Demonstrated knowledge and working ability to effectively interact with children requiring behavioural guidance
• Demonstrated knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?
• Experience in program planning and implementation for JK/SK and school-aged children
• Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Flexibility to adapt to a variety of responsibilities and schedules
• Passion for supporting children, families, and colleagues in a positive, team-focused environment

Certifications

• Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
• Proof ofup-to-date immunizations(TB, Tetanus, MMR)
