Role and Facility Information

Breast Health Radiologist

BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre,

Regular position FTE negotiable (between 0.4 to 0.8)

BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns, and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women’s health services addressing the needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women’s is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with over 7,000 births annually, serving as a primary and secondary maternity care provider in the Lower Mainland and a key part of the provincial tertiary care system.

As an academic health centre, BCW leads in research and the education and professional development of medical professionals related to women’s health.

The Breast Health Program focuses exclusively on breast imaging and procedures, including screening and diagnostic mammography (with tomosynthesis), breast ultrasound, contrast-enhanced mammography, stereotactic, tomosynthesis, and ultrasound biopsies. We aim to be the first site in BC to offer contrast-enhanced biopsy and are developing a breast MRI program planned to start in fall 2024, including MRI-guided biopsy capabilities. Our goal is to complete mammography and ultrasound at the first diagnostic visit, streamlining patient care.

Reporting to the Medical Lead of the Breast Health Program, this role involves clinical responsibilities, resident education, and research opportunities. The successful candidate will apply best practices to provide diagnostic breast imaging services, including complex case management.

Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and procedural skills and a passion for breast imaging.

What BCW Has to Offer You
  • The opportunity to join an experienced team dedicated to quality, patient-centered care.
  • The chance to contribute to the growth and future of breast imaging in BC.
  • Participation in breast MRI program development.
  • Eligibility to participate in the BC Cancer Breast Screening program.

Testimonials highlight the supportive leadership, dedicated team, and technological advancements, with a focus on work-life balance and community engagement.

Qualifications

Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in BC, hold or be eligible for RCPSC certification in Radiology. Fellowship training in breast imaging is highly desirable; relevant clinical experience will also be considered. The successful candidate will be recommended for a clinical faculty appointment at the University of British Columbia, with faculty rank based on qualifications.

Commitment to reconciliation in Canada is essential, including knowledge of Indigenous issues and anti-racism practices, and familiarity with legislative and policy frameworks such as the Truth & Reconciliation Commission (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).

Applications will be reviewed immediately; the position remains open until filled.
