Regular position FTE negotiable (between 0.4 to 0.8)
BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns, and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women’s health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women’s is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with over 7,000 births a year, and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in the Lower Mainland and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system.
As an academic health centre, BCW’s mandate includes providing strong leadership in research and the education and professional development of medical professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve.
The Breast Health Program focuses exclusively on breast imaging and procedures. We perform screening mammography, diagnostic mammography including tomosynthesis and breast ultrasound. We are the second site in British Columbia to offer contrast-enhanced mammography. We currently perform stereotactic, tomosynthesis, and ultrasound biopsies. The program aims to be the first site in British Columbia to offer contrast-enhanced biopsy. We are actively developing our breast MRI program and aim to start in fall 2024 with MRI-guided biopsy capability. Our goal is to complete mammography and ultrasound at the first diagnostic visit, allowing women to leave the department knowing the next step in their breast care journey.
Reporting to the Medical Lead, Breast Health Program, this role will assume clinical responsibility, participate in resident education, and have the opportunity for research in Breast Health at BC Women’s Hospital. The successful candidate will apply best practice standards to provide diagnostic breast imaging services for women referred to the program, including complex case management.
Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and procedural skills, as well as a passion for advancing breast imaging.
