Position Overview

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Purchasing Agent plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of materials and services for our construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in supply chain management, proficiency in Viewpoint, and a strong background in electrical construction.

This position is ideal for candidates based near a Bird branch on Vancouver Island or in Edmonton, Alberta.

What You Will Be Working On
  • Source, negotiate, and purchase materials, equipment, and services for projects.
  • Develop and maintain supplier and vendor relationships for timely delivery and favorable terms.
  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and schedule.
  • Monitor contract performance for compliance and necessary adjustments.
  • Manage purchase orders and procurement records using Viewpoint.
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies.
  • Analyze market trends for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Conduct cost analysis and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with project teams on procurement needs and quality issues.
  • Maintain procurement documentation, including contracts and supplier agreements.
  • Collaborate internally to forecast and schedule material needs.
  • Manage supplier relationships, resolve issues, and promote continuous improvement.
  • Create accurate purchase orders and procurement documents.
  • Implement procurement strategies aligned with project timelines.
  • Track and maintain supplier performance metrics.
  • Assist the Estimating team with RFX packages for proposals.
  • Coordinate with site teams to meet procurement needs.
What We Are Looking For
  • At least 3 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably in construction.
  • Knowledge of electrical construction materials and standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or an electrical trade is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications such as SMT or SCMP are highly desirable or enrollment in SCMP.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle disputes and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

As per Section 2 of the BC Pay Transparency Act, this position offers a salary range of $60,000 - $70,000 per year.
