Contract for Project Coordination: Other Effective Area Based Conservation Measures (OECM)

About the Long Point Biosphere Region

The Long Point Biosphere Region is a 26,250-hectare Great Lakes coastal ecosystem designated by UNESCO, aiming to combine biodiversity conservation with community development. It is one of 738 biospheres in 134 countries, including 19 in Canada. The LPBR undertakes projects in Biodiversity Conservation, Sustainable Communities, Knowledge Sharing, and Climate Action.

Project Overview

We seek an independent contractor to collaborate with the LPBR Board of Directors, contractors, and partners to deliver project coordination services, including:

  1. Prioritize and evaluate lands for OECM status.
  2. Lead analyses of biodiversity and land protections for each site.
  3. Complete and submit Decision Support Tool for each PA/OE.
  4. Engage with landowners and land managers.
  5. Facilitate/contribute to Conservation Plans for target properties.
  6. Provide reports to the Board, supervisors, and partners.
  7. Perform other duties to support project objectives.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, meticulous, and strong communication skills.
  • Background in Conservation Biology, Ecology, Protected Areas, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of biodiversity principles, restoration, data, GIS/maps.
  • Understanding of legislation, conservation easements, and financing related to protected areas.
  • Familiarity with Norfolk County’s environment and biodiversity.
  • Skills in analysis, strategy, persuasion, diplomacy, and collaboration.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders and community members.
  • Knowledge of local culture and agriculture in Norfolk County.
Contract Details
  • Duration: Immediate to April 1, 2026.
  • Salary: To be determined based on skills and qualifications.
  • Location: Partially virtual; travel within Norfolk County required.
Additional Information

This role offers an opportunity to be part of the ongoing strategic renewal of the LPBR, including diversifying revenue and evolving from a working to governance board. Future positions may be available depending on funding.
