Job description

Job Title: Project Leader

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join our team as a Project Leader. Reporting to the Manager of Facilities and Projects, this role involves leading matrix project execution teams and coordinating project documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Candidates should have experience in a live construction environment. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to Ontario Power Generation’s growth and success as Ontario’s low-cost electricity generator.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Organize, coordinate, and control all stages of project management according to Project Management governance for assigned projects.
  2. Contribute to project background information, scope and constructability reviews, business case preparations, and project approval processes.
  3. Prepare and coordinate project information and alternatives for planning.
  4. Gather input from stakeholders to ensure project requirements are captured; manage approvals, licenses, permits, or clearances.
  5. Lead meetings with designers, suppliers, construction, and operations; evaluate project plans for risk and develop mitigation strategies.
  6. Review contractor submissions, schedules, work methods, and quality procedures; ensure safety and compliance.
  7. Maintain communication with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and agencies to meet project objectives.
  8. Stay informed of construction, budgeting, estimating, scheduling practices, and corporate procedures.
Qualifications
  • 4-year university degree in Engineering, Science, or Business.
  • 6-10 years of project management experience, including project requirements, planning, cost estimates, contract bidding, and project closeout.
  • Experience with facilities, infrastructure, and ICI construction is an asset.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes such as OBC and NBCC is an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage conflicting priorities related to scope, schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Experience with cost accounting and forecasting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Integrity and commitment to corporate values and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.

Additional Information

This position will move to OPG Corporate Headquarters at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, in Summer 2025. Until then, it will be based temporarily in Courtice, ON.

OPG operates across Ontario and the U.S., providing about 50% of Ontario’s electricity, mainly from low-carbon sources like nuclear and hydro. We are advancing low-carbon technologies such as SMRs, refurbishment projects, and electrification initiatives.
