Job summary

MEDA Engineering and Technical Services, LLC is seeking an experienced Project Chief- Body Closures Engineer to lead closure programs in Windsor, Ontario, onsite. The role requires 5+ years in Body Closures, strong leadership, and robust project management with suppliers.

Travel to the USA 1–2 times weekly and occasional supplier visits are required. Responsibilities include guiding early design, targeting cost and investment, tracking sourcing and tooling releases, and managing testing plans

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited or equivalent program.
  • 5 years minimum of direct relevant experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Body Closures.
  • Track record of strong leadership.
  • Must be self-directed.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills required to support the design/development process.
  • Automotive Body Closures experience and broad vehicle knowledge.
  • Experience with project management, working with suppliers.
  • Ability to present ideas and concepts successfully to all levels of management.
  • Experience managing suppliers and/or other team members.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge Body Closures, design practices and regulatory compliance specifications.
  • Good organizational skills, self-directed and self-motivated, ability to meet deadlines and ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Detailed oriented, team player, flexible and the ability to prioritize.
  • Working knowledge of NX/Teamcenter.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Closures commodities for vehicle programs, from start to finish.
  • Collaborate with Product Planning and Design Office early in programs to guide feasible technical solutions.
  • Help determine Cost Weight and Investment targets early in programs.
  • Track ontime sourcing and design release of component designs for tooling.
  • Manage testing plans and timelines to ensure on-time Closures components.
  • Develop recovery mitigation plans as necessary.
  • Travel with supplier and plant launch support during pilot and launch phases.
  • Actively manage warranty or quality issues after program launch.

Job description

We are recruiting an experienced Project Chief- Body Closures Engineer to join our team to support our client in the automotive industry. NOTE: Onsite 100% in Windsor, Ontario Must be willing and able to travel to the USA, without restrictions, effective on the start date. Travel to the US will be required at least 1-2 times per week for meetings. Valid driver's license is required as well as a clean driving record. Must have a vehicle to drive to suppliers regularly.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee all Closures commodities (Door in White, Hood, Fender, Static and Dynamic Sealing, Liftgates) for vehicle programs, from start to finish.
  • Early in a program, this will involve working with Product Planning and the Product Design Office (or 'styling') to help guide the design of the vehicle toward feasible technical solutions.
  • Early program work will require extensive collaboration to determine appropriate Cost Weight and Investment targets for the new vehicle.
  • As the design evolves, the Project Chief (PC) will be responsible for tracking ontime sourcing (supplier selection) and design release of component designs for tooling.
  • Further in a program, the PC will manage all component and system testing plans and timelines to ensure Closures components are on time and will develop recovery mitigation plans as necessary.
  • Travel is required with significant supplier and assembly plant launch support throughout pilot and launch phases will follow.
  • Will actively manage any warranty or quality issues the customer experiences with exterior trim after program launch.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • $42.00-46.90/hour (depending on experience).
  • Paid Benefits after 90 days (individual and family) – extended medical, out-of-country coverage, dental etc.
  • Pension eligibility, with employer match, after 1 full year of work.
