Job description
What you’ll do
Responsibilities
  • Lead a design team working on business-critical tools and products that ensure platforms have an intuitive, efficient, and reliable experience.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and leadership teams to deliver intuitive, scalable interfaces that simplify complex financial transactions and payment paths for different business models, such as marketplaces and platforms that pay out to multiple parties.
  • Build and scale a team of designers, growing their skills and careers while fostering a high-performance, customer-obsessed team culture.
  • Inspire and motivate the team to do their best work while creating a clear design vision that aligns with Stripe's goals.
  • Advocate for design excellence at every stage of the product lifecycle, balancing speed, quality, and bold experimentation.
Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Qualifications
Minimum requirements
  • Have experience leading design teams tackling complex B2B products with technical or financial systems.
  • Are passionate about building a deep understanding of the needs of a broad range of users, from individual developers and small businesses to large platforms and marketplaces with complex payment workflows.
  • Have successfully managed both individual designers and design managers, cultivating strong team cultures and clear career growth pathways.
  • Excel at balancing detail-oriented design with big-picture strategy.
  • Are relentless in delivering customer-focused experiences, combining user insights with business goals to drive meaningful outcomes.
  • Thrive in cross-functional collaboration, aligning design efforts with Product, Engineering, and Leadership stakeholders.
  • Have 5+ years of people management experience and are confident in scaling design teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • Have exceptional communication skills, using storytelling to clarify complex problems and inspire teams.
  • Are comfortable navigating ambiguity and finding the right balance between quality, speed, and experimentation.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in designing user experiences that support platforms and marketplaces, and the UX challenges of multi-sided interactions.
  • Experience designing for enterprise financial tools, including operations, risk, and compliance workflows.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and security considerations in financial products.
  • Experience working in global financial markets, considering localization and compliance constraints.
Other details

This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.

Compensation and benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $194,900 - $292,300. For roles other than sales, this range reflects base salary; for sales roles, the range includes both target commissions and base salary. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants outside the US may request the salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
