Job description

PLUMBER 1.0 FTE Permanent position

The Maintenance Services Department of the Simcoe County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Plumber. Reporting to the Supervisor of Mechanical Systems, this position provides emergency, preventive, and planned maintenance services to plant heating and cooling systems within a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities include:
  • Repairing mechanical pipe leaks, pumps, and associated equipment for heating and cooling systems.
  • Focusing on chemical treatment of all closed loop heating systems, chilled water systems, cooling towers, and associated equipment throughout the district.

Status: 1.0 FTE - Full-Time Permanent Position

Hours: 8 hours per day / 40 hours per week

Qualifications and Skills Required
  • A current Certificate of Qualification as a licensed Plumber / Steamfitter is required.
  • Applicants with a Certificate of Qualification as a Gas Fitter (G1) are considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of components and treatment of closed water system loops, open water treatment systems, cooling towers, fluid coolers, and evaporative coolers.
  • Knowledge of water softener systems, including setup and operation.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, service, and repair of hydronic heating systems, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, gas, and oil burners, and related controls.
  • Knowledge of boiler, chiller, air handler components, hot water systems, and DDC controls.
  • Computer literacy with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and maintenance systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and with staff, students, and the public.
  • Must be on-call after hours on a rotational basis (classified as Plumber (BAS rate)).
  • A valid Ontario Driver's Licence is required.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Working at Heights fall arrest safety training.
  • Lock out tag out / Control of hazardous energy.
  • Building Automation Systems knowledge.

The duties may include additional responsibilities outlined in the job description. The position requires on-call and after-hours work on a rotational basis, with compensation per the CUPE collective agreement. SCDSB training will be provided as needed.
