Job description

PLUMBER

1.0 FTE Permanent position


The Maintenance Services Department of the Simcoe County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Plumber. Reporting to the Supervisor of Mechanical Systems, this position provides emergency, preventive, and planned maintenance services to plant heating and cooling systems within a multi-disciplinary team. Responsibilities include chemical treatment of all closed loop heating systems, chilled water systems, cooling towers, and associated equipment throughout the district. The role also involves repairing mechanical pipe leaks, pumps, and related equipment for heating and cooling systems.

Qualifications and Skills Required
  • A current Certificate of Qualification as a licensed Plumber/Steamfitter is required.
  • Possession of a Certificate of Qualification as a Gas Fitter (G1) is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of closed water system loops and their treatment.
  • Understanding of open water treatment systems, including cooling towers, fluid coolers, and evaporative coolers.
  • Experience with water softener systems, including setup and operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing hydronic heating systems, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, gas, and oil burners, and related controls.
  • Knowledge of boiler, chiller, air handler components, hot water systems, and DDC controls.
  • Proficiency with computer software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and maintenance management systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with staff, students, and the public.
  • Willingness to be on-call on a rotational basis, with compensation according to the CUPE collective agreement.
  • A valid Ontario Driver's Licence; proof required upon hiring.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Working at Heights fall arrest safety training.
  • Lockout/tagout and control of hazardous energy procedures.
  • Building automation systems knowledge.

The duties may include additional responsibilities as outlined in the official Job Description. The position requires participation in on-call and after-hours work as needed, with compensation for on-call duties.
