Here’s The Scoop - Summary

We are looking for a solution-oriented PLC Technician, 1st shift, to join our team. This position works out of our production facility located in Acheson, Alberta, and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. This is an essential role for those who enjoy problem-solving and working in a high-paced, state-of-the-art manufacturing environment.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

  • Ensure compliance with company policies related to Health and Safety, Food Safety, and the Environment.
  • Install, program, calibrate, troubleshoot, and commission various electrical/instrumentation devices including variable frequency drives, level transmitters, flow meters, power monitoring equipment, electrical motors and equipment, power panels, and PLCs.
  • Perform regularly scheduled checks on transfer lines, packaging lines, robots, weighing systems, and light mechanical tasks.
  • Write or re-write logic code, troubleshoot, and read logic ladders.
  • Work with HMI graphics creation or modification.
  • Act as a technical lead for troubleshooting production lines and process issues.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems with limited supervision.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical modifications and repairs, including parts and equipment requests.
  • Maintain logs of PLC repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure effective communication and work planning.
  • Demonstrate understanding and compliance with health and safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience as an Automation Specialist with troubleshooting skills in PLC/Control/Electrical/Instrumentation systems.
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC, Rockwell Viewpoint, FactoryTalk View SE/ME, and Vantage Point is required. Ignition and SQL/Python scripting experience is a plus.
  • Ability to read piping and instrument diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, and related technical documents.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and scientific aptitude.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team.
  • Flexible and able to perform under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to plan and execute projects with attention to detail and stakeholder communication.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing, fit-to-work assessment, and background checks.
  • Availability to work Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend shifts.

Working Conditions

  • Shift: Monday – Friday, 5:30 am – 2 pm, with some flexibility for additional shifts.
  • Manual dexterity required for computer and equipment use.
  • Physical exertion, including lifting up to 25 kg with proper safety procedures.
