West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Our Grande Prairie OSB Division in Alberta is currently recruiting for a Process Control Technician.

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Process Control Technician will work as a team to supporting operations and the electrical department, with troubleshooting and improving process control systems.

As a member of the West Fraser Grande Prairie OSB Maintenance Team, you are responsible for assisting in designing electrical, instrumentation and control systems in support of plant operations and maintenance activities.

You'll Do:

  • Configure and develop industrial computer network systems for HMI and PLC systems.
  • Optimize the facilities’ process control systems as well as improve reliability of the process systems.
  • Perform HMI, VFD and PLC programming.
  • Support operations & maintenance teams during normal & abnormal plant operations.
  • Maintain process control equipment and/or process control related software.
  • Coordinate with Remote Ops Center personnel as needed.
  • Monitor and ensure accuracy of Asset Center Logbook entries
  • Liaison between corporate control / automation group and the mill
  • Assess process improvements and the impacts to the mill
  • Stay up to date on latest technology and how it applies to mill operations
  • Maintain required support agreements with various vendors
  • Participate in other mill initiatives regarding improvements throughout the facility such as energy management, data gathering, report generation etc.

You have:

  • Certified Electrician with Industrial Experience (minimum 3 years)
  • Familiar with Allen Bradley products, VFD Drives, Soft Starters, and HMI’s
  • Experience with PLC 5 and Control Logix PLC platforms
  • Experience with communication network protocols; ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNet
  • Proficient in computer and Microsoft Office software packages
  • Ability to manage projects and “day to day” work planning
  • Experience following electrical schematics
  • Solid track record of relentless troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated safe work performance
  • Supervisory skills or ability to move into leadership role

Your Workplace Location:

  • This position will be located at our West Fraser Grande Prairie, Alberta OSB facility
  • The Process Control Technician must be capable of working in an OSB manufacturing environment that includes exposure to noise, temperature variances, heights, stairways and grated elevated walkways, confined spaces, and the physical ability to travel through our industrial facility.
  • Although the work schedule is primarily Monday to Friday, flexibility is required to respond to immediate business needs and events to support a 24/7/365 manufacturing facility.
