Job summary

The Canalta Group of Companies is seeking a Pipe Finishing Technician for our Red Deer head office, supporting the Pipe Finishing & Crating department. The role is hands-on, demanding, and involves honing, grinding, measuring, and safe handling of industrial pipe and fittings.

Qualifications

• Follow drawings and work instructions precisely.
• Use measuring tools to verify dimensions.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

• 1–3 years honing/grinding/machining experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare pipe for honing by buffing and grinding internal root welds and surfaces.
• Set up and operate honing machines to meet dimensions and finishes.
• Grind, clean and preserve fittings to prevent corrosion.
• Measure pipe and fittings before, during, and after processing.
• Use grinding tools and lifting equipment safely.
• Record job and inspection data and keep area organized.
• Follow safe work procedures and report safety concerns.

We primarily serve the gas industry and supply customers internationally. We are currently hiring a Pipe Finishing Technician to join our Pipe Finishing & Crating department at our head office in Red Deer, Alberta.

What You Will Do

• Prepare pipe for honing by buffing and grinding internal root welds and other specified surfaces.
• Set up and operate honing machines to achieve required internal dimensions and surface finishes.
• Grind, clean, and preserve fittings to meet specifications and prevent corrosion.
• Measure pipe and fittings before, during, and after processing to verify dimensions and identify defects.
• Use grinding tools, hand tools, and authorized lifting and material-handling equipment safely.
• Complete equipment checks, perform assigned routine equipment care, and report maintenance concerns.
• Record required job and inspection information, and keep your work area clean and organized.
• Follow safe work procedures and report quality or safety concerns promptly.

This is a physically demanding, hands-on shop role. Grinding and pipe finishing require strength, endurance, and attention to detail. You will be on your feet for most of the shift, handling pipe and fittings and working with industrial equipment. Canalta provides training, PPE, and safety support to help you succeed.

What You Need

• Ability to follow drawings, work instructions, and specifications and use measuring tools to check your work.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to safe, quality workmanship.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform the physical duties of the role.
• Willingness to complete required forklift, overhead crane, and safety training before operating the equipment.
• One to three years of experience in honing, grinding, machining, or a similar industrial production role is preferred.

Monday to Friday; 8:00AM to 4:30PM

Overtime may be required based on production requirements.
