Job summary

The Canalta Group of Companies, Red Deer, is seeking an experienced Fabrication Supervisor to lead our fabrication team. You will coordinate welding, cutting, fit-up, assembly, and related production activities, providing strong day-to-day leadership, technical guidance, and hands-on support when needed.

Responsibilities include directing daily fabrication activities, planning workloads, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time delivery, and coaching employees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a recognized trade apprenticeship and journeyperson certification in welding or fabrication is preferred.
• At least five years of relevant fabrication, welding, or industrial manufacturing experience.
• At least five years of supervisory or progressive leadership experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of FCAW, GMAW, MCAW, and SMAW welding processes and general fabrication practices.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, datasheets, weld procedures, material specs, and dimensional requirements.
• Experience with regulated quality systems; ABSA and PED knowledge is an asset.
• Strong leadership, planning, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Business Central and Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Crane and forklift training or ability to obtain it.
• Willingness to work overtime when needed.

• Provide daily direction to the fabrication team and set safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
• Plan and prioritize fabrication work based on schedules, drawings, material availability, and customer delivery commitments.
• Monitor work in progress, labour utilization, equipment capacity, and schedule risks.
• Coach and train employees and apprentices to build capability and safe workmanship.
• Participate in recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, and employee development.
• Lead toolbox and department meetings to communicate priorities and changes.
• Ensure welding and fabrication meet drawings, weld procedures, inspections, and ABSA/PED requirements.
• Coordinate inspections, Factory Acceptance Tests, non-conformance investigations, and corrective actions.
• Promote safe work practices, inspections, hazard addressing, and incident investigations.
• Coordinate equipment maintenance, consumables, tools, materials, and housekeeping.
• Maintain production records in Business Central and other systems.
• Perform or assist with welding, fabrication, equipment operation, and related production work.

What will you do?
